It certainly didn’t take the Brits long to come up with a Strokes of their own. Only, the poor young Libertines seem blissfully unaware of how close their attempt to graft English accents onto a brash New York bounce has put them to an Adam and the Ants sound. That could explain why new wave granddad Geoff Travis signed them to Rough Trade. Let’s hope he can convince them to tour in pirate costumes.
