As a semi-professional stage manager, Dave Hause spent countless nights watching other bands live out his dream. Touring with the Bouncing Souls and Sick of It All, the singer/guitarist longed to switch on his own amp and maybe have someone adjust his mic for once. It may never happen, sadly. Not that Keep Your Heart isn't a competent affair, but it's pop punk so disappointingly formulaic, it's like a mathematic equation where the variables can change but the end result remains predictably constant. The lyrics don't even factor: "I sold the heart that beats in fear / the road ahead is now desolately clear," ponders Hause on Suture Self. Yet another unremarkable addition to Fat's bloated catalogue, but at least Hause will finally get to centre stage rather than toiling from the sides.
