The Miniatures

Rating: NN

Kitchener’s Miniatures are going pretty hard for the Brit-rock vibe by way of Stereophonics, Keane and many others who’ve planted themselves firmly in the middle of pop’s road. It can be a hazardous route to take if you’re hoping to distinguish yourself in a bloated genre . Nevertheless, Dead Flowers comes to life on a couple of songs. The title track and Any Day Now both hit their sexed-up dance rock marks, with a Duran Duran influence serving them well. Weighing down the effort, though, is epic Would You Kill If You Had To and Sleaze Radio, an incongruous rant against stale radio programming. Strange how three mainstream FM stations are thanked in the liner notes.

The Miniatures hit the Horseshoe Friday (May 26).
