The Music

Rating: NNNN

When I interviewed the Music’s Rob Harvey a couple of years back, he was so dull he could barely form a sentence to describe the band’s self-titled debut. You had to forgive the guy, cuz that record was so bloody genius it was mind-blowing, especially coming from a bunch of precocious 18-year-olds. Welcome To The North grows out of the same swirling, Zeppelinesque roots, but is more focused, eschewing dancey meandering in favour of a more homogenous rock discipline. This doesn’t bode so well for fans of the last record’s Take The Long Road And Walk It, but it’s still impressive, with spacey vocals and rhythms ranging from world beat to anthemic Brit invasion rock. Tight as hell and smartly structured, though their debut grooved a bit more.
