The North Mississippi All-Stars

Rating: NNNNN

The North Mississippi All-Stars and Hammond B-3 basher John Medeski get down here on an instrumental gospel program with 24-year-old sacred steel guitar star Robert Randolph, and the Word shakes and swings like these hombres have been playing together since Sunday school. Those weird House of God tunings Randolph uses on his homemade 13-string axe don’t prove any trouble for All-Stars Cody and Luther Dickinson, who knock out jubilant grooves while their steel-slashing lets fly with spiritual fire like a fundamentalist Jimi Hendrix. A heavenly hit out of left field.
