Hailing from St. John's, Newfoundland, these good ol' boys pay close attention to the typical Canrock musical blueprint. The Novaks' sound recalls classic East Coast bands of the recent past, not straying far from the vibe of compadres like Sloan, Joel Plaskett and Matt Mays, but what they lack in originality these guys make up in pop prowess. Mick Davis's vocals have a nice Tom Petty slur, and combined with sweet harmonies, danceable guitar hooks and Christopher Walken-worthy cowbell, make for a listenable first record. Begone, Trews. Novaks, you will do MuchOnDemand proud.
The Novaks rock the Opera House Saturday (November 12).
