You know the Rapture's career is in bad shape when their label reps think that stickering their new disc with a 3.5-star shrug from Rolling Stone will actually help sell it. The really sad part is that they could be right. Even worse than the fact that Pieces Of The People We Love finds the Rapture still stuck in 80s retro mode (think early Depeche Mode, Medium Medium, Heaven 17 and Tom Tom Club) is that they've somehow got the wrong-headed idea that the whiny Simon Le Bon-inspired vocals of singer boy Luke Jenner should be played up in the mix. After hearing all the crap they're writing about "holiday getaways" with "sun-drenched French girls," it seems like they decided to go whole hog with the Duran Duran template. Not the best strategy, considering it isn't even working for Le Bon and company any more.
