THE REBEL ZONE Queen Street West (Sony) Rating: NNN
Compiled by Parachute Club's Lorraine Segato as the soundtrack for her documentary on the early Queen West club scene, The Rebel Zone is more an overview of what Segato's friends in bands were doing between 75 and 85 than a carefully considered synopsis of the era's defining music. So while we get to hear the Hummer Sisters' Falling and two tracks each from Lillian Allen, Molly Johnson and Mojah, artists like the Viletones, the Poles, the Dishes, the Secrets and many others are strangely left out. Some might enjoy going back through the songs of Rough Trade (Birds Of A Feather), the Government (Zippers Of Fire) and Boys Brigade (Passion Of Love) for nostalgia's sake, but the sad news is that none of it has really improved with age.
