The Silt

Rating: NNNN

It’s hard to say why “the Silt” is the perfect name for this unusual musical expedition. Maybe it’s cuz silt is pieces of matter broken down to fine particles, consisting of every stuff that makes super-fertile soil. Between the ministrations of core Silters Ryan Driver, Marcus Quin and Doug Tielli and guest forays by Jim Guthrie (Royal City) and Sandro Perri (Polmo Polpo), Earlier Ways To Wander is a comfortable blend of nervous vocal pop harmonies and arresting juxtapositions of noise, inflected with rootsy sincerity and indie rock cleverness. The Silt build up quiet monuments in sound from a seeming lack of focused intention, but within that organized disorganization, inspiration flowers.

The Silt play a CD release show with Jim Guthrie and Sandro Perri at the Tranzac Saturday (July 24).
