THE SOUND OF YOUNG NEW YORK

THE SOUND OF YOUNG NEW YORK (Plant) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

Dominique Keegan runs New York’s Plant Bar, a club closely associated with the crossover of indie rock and house popularized by DFA and the Rapture. If you’re reading too many music magazines, you may be sick of hearing about this scene. But it’s undeniable that some of the best new dance music (and indie rock, for that matter) is coming from this meeting of worlds. This mixed CD compiles some up-and-coming artists as a DJ mix, approximating what you might hear at a Plant party. The mixing is competent, but that’s not really the focus of the disc – these are song-based tracks, so a quick transition is all that’s really needed. Lots of fun, but there are better tracks coming out of this scene than those featured here. Dominique Keegan DJs at Tangerine Friday (November 7) as part of Fascination.
