The Sounds Living In America (Scratchie/ New Line) Rating: NN Rating: NN
Swedish kiddies the Sounds serve up the worst of ersatz garage, making the Donnas look like the Stooges. Living In America is an 80s-referencing sludge of crunchy guitars and dopey synths, with annoyingly shrill girly vocals yelped over top. The title track could be a second-rate revamp of the classic Kids In America, but I’d rather listen to the original. Thanks to Carson Daly’s support, the Swedes have been doing well in the nu-garage Olympics lately, but they really should be taken out of the running.
The Sounds warm up for the Raveonettes at the Horseshoe Friday (May 30).
