THE SPECIAL GOODNESS

THE SPECIAL GOODNESS Land Air Sea (Epitaph) Rating: NN

Rating: NN

Weezer drummer Pat Wilson has an identity crisis. He thinks he’s Rivers Cuomo. He’s watched him for long enough to know his entire shtick inside out, so how hard could it be? Enlisting ex- Rocket from the Crypt drummer Atom Willard has enabled Wilson to move his ass to the front of the stage, strap on a six-string and sing. Whadda you know? It sounds just like Weezer. Not entirely a bad thing, but even diehards got enough of them over the last couple of years. Wilson falters mostly with the lyrics, lacking the bite and wit that makes Weezer the geek rock champs they are, and the formulaic power chords and melodic verses rarely rise above average.
