The Tea Party

Rating: NN

I will forever love the Tea Party for being a part of the Discovery Channel’s The Science Of Rock And Roll Uncovered documentary – that was a truly cool (no, I’m not being ironic) thing to do. But when it comes to musical sensibility, the Teatotalers and I part ways. The complete lack of embarrassment they show in laying out their absurdly pompous, unintentionally camp lyrical dross hurts me in ways I can barely articulate. And the musical gestures are just so obvious. In the context of Tea Party albums, Seven Circles is as strong as it gets. The music is powerfully emotive, lush, moody and forceful but delivered with the subtlety of a hedge-clipper slicing prosciutto. If you’re already a fan, you’ll probably love it. Otherwise, this is for putting drinks on.
