The Trews

Rating: NN

buy this at amazon.ca!

Den Of Thieves helps the Trews get one step closer to their ultimate goal of becoming this decade’s Extreme, albeit without Nuno’s looks or a smash hit like More Than Words to make the girls swoon. Instead, the Trews go for testosterone-fuelled rock that builds on the template of Mountain’s Mississippi Queen, throwing in a little Chris Cornell growl for contemporary flavour. It’s when they keep the rawk star posturing to a minimum that the Trews connect. Here, that happens on the jangly The Traveling Kind, and – to a lesser degree – on their cover of Tracy Bonham’s (!) Naked. Producer Jack Douglas (Aerosmith, New York Dolls) gives it a real slick sound, but at an hour and three minutes, it’s about 25 minutes too long. Those of you still looking for the next Black Crowes, your search has finally ended.

The Trews hit the Horseshoe Tuesday (August 16).
