Jack White figured out recently that there were other cities in Canada besides Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver where people might pay to see the White Stripes go through the motions, so the mainstream media run splashy spreads to celebrate their daring exploration of the Great White North. Hilarious.
Now White moves from copping licks from Southern bluesmen to knocking out Jimmy Page riffs and howling like Robert Plant and he's congratulated for a bold progression when it's more likely that he was listening a little too much to Brendan Benson's Led Zeppelin records while gathering ideas for the Raconteurs' album.
Most of Icky Thump's songs sound half-assed, with keyboard parts thrown in ad hoc, but at least they had the good sense to trim the piano bar balladry. So I guess it's on to Whitesnake, then.
