Think About Life

Rating: NNNNN

On Family, Think About Life’s second disc, the Montreal synth rap trio dish out hit after hit, at times pairing pretty indie rock guitars with club beats, or adding punk bass to soulful samples. Weirdo production courtesy of main man Graham Van Pelt and inspired MCing by Martin Cesar put this energetic offering on art pop’s top shelf.

Sweet Sixteen updates Robert Smith’s affected yelp, while Havin’ My Baby culminates with Van Pelt’s now-signature brand of blissed-out maximalism. Van Pelt also heads the amazing, Polaris-nominated Miracle Fortress, but Think About Life are too good to be brushed off as merely a side project. Cuts from this wall-to-wall winner should have indie dance floors hopping all summer.

Think About Life play at the Polish Combatants Hall as part of Over The Top Fest on May 22.
