Third Eye Blind

Third Eye Blind Out Of The Vein (Elektra/Warner) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

I’ve always been ambivalent about Third Eye Blind’s West Coast alternative approach to rock, but I have to admit I warmed to them a bit when I heard the line “I want to stay right here and go down on you for an hour,” from Blinded (When I See You), the first single off Out Of The Vein. Now those are clever lyrics. The rest of the record is the expected melodic, inoffensive post-grunge fare. It’s kind of predictable, but Third Eye Blind have always had a knack for rhythmic construction and decent phrasing. There are some not-bad melancholic melodies here as well.
