Thrice have been hailed as forerunners of today’s heavy music scene due to their balance of skilful guitar acrobatics, crushing intensity and genuinely heartfelt melodies. With Vheissu, their fourth album, Thrice have moved beyond the mosh pit and the simple heavy/melodic dichotomy to experiment with synths, pianos and even Morse code, creating music that’s more complex than anything they’ve done in the past. The aggressive scream-alongs are here, but more compelling are softer songs like Music Box and Atlantic, which emphasize a melodic dimension only hinted at in Thrice’s earlier work.
Thrice hit the Docks Wedneday (October 26).
