To Rococo Rot

Rating: NNNN

The plan for To Rococo Rot’s first project for Domino was a “less electronic” album, but listening to Hotel Morgen, there’s no shortage of squelch gurgle and bleeping. The difference here is that the tracks seem less programmed and seem to unfold intuitively for an altogether more organic sound involving guitar, Wurlitzer, vibes, piano and an assortment of vintage analog synths. The sharp edges have been rounded smooth, and the interplay sounds looser and, dare I say, funkier than any studio recording To Rococo Rot have previously released. Nice one.
