You might remember the Age of Electric, but then again you might not, which shouldn’t make you feel bad. I don’t really either. Seems they were nominated for a Juno (!!!) back in 1998, which is about all the excitement they generated. Todd Kerns was one of ’em, and now he’s got a solo record. It’s straight-ahead post grunge alt-rock with some old-skool punk rhythms and a whole lotta repetition repetition repetition in the lyrics (he’s all fired up fired up fired up!), which lean toward the clichéd. He’s either falling in love or falling out of it. The clichés can be fun in their familiarity, and there are some good lyrical moments, like It’s Not You It’s Me, the breakup song, and some catchy rhythms.
Todd Kerns plays Montana’s Sunday (September 5) and the Horseshoe Tuesday (September 7).
