Never know whatcher gonna get from Tommy. This is a far cry from Methods Of Mayhem, and actually showcases little if any mayhem at all. Lee has called on all kinds of folks to help with this record, including Chad Kroeger, Good Charlotte’s Joel and Benji Madden, Backstreet Boy Nick Carter and 13 guitar players of whom Kroeger and Madden are two and Dave Navarro another. Count ’em: 12. I guess it’s tough launching a solo project as a drummer. There are some ballads that, alas, won’t go down in history as rock classics, like I Need You, which is all about Lee needing someone. Tommyland ain’t the most exciting or original piece of work ever made, but I think it’s cute that he’s trying something new. And there’s no reason why folks who like the post-grunge rock stuff shouldn’t like this. None at all.
