TOWN & COUNTRY

TOWN & COUNTRY 5 (Thrill Jockey) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

Chicago minimalists Town & Country leave a lot to the imagination. The group’s 5 disc is stripped almost beyond the bone, featuring acoustic chamber compositions that seem barely there. Clarinets whisper, wind chimes tinkle in the background and bows are scraped across strings. It can be mesmerizing, particularly longer, drone-heavy compositions like Sleeping In The Midday Sun, but on record you lose the intensity of the songs.

Hopefully, Town & Country will be a bit livelier when they hit the Music Gallery tonight (Thursday, September 18).
