Hard to believe it’s been 20 years since legendary Chicago label Trax started dropping groundbreaking dance-floor bombs on the world. In honour of this momentous anniversary, they’ve released a three-disc compilation of their best-known tunes. The first two discs are mixed by Maurice Joshua and Paul Johnson, and the third is unmixed, containing remastered versions of the biggest tunes. It’s amazing that one label was responsible for so many seminal 80s house tracks. Listing the anthems would take the whole review, so let’s just say that if you have any interest in the history of house, this is an essential compilation. Sure, lots of the singing is off-key, and the production is very raw and primitive, but just try not to jack your body when Marshall Jefferson tells you to.
