TREASURE ISLE: SHOWTIME

Rating: NNNN

Another dance-floor filler of Treasure Isle classics, Showtime showcases the label’s roots and rocksteady catalogue, lining up one hit after another, as well as a few rarely heard gems. Thirty years later, it’s hard to believe that tracks like Phyllis Dillon’s Rock Steady, the Paragons’ Wear You To The Ball, U Roy’s Wake The Town and John Holt’s chilling Ali Baba all came from the same label. Even more impressive is that they’ve still got crackers like a psychedelic unreleased version of the Paragons’ On The Beach sitting in the vaults.
