Sharing the same name as a video game that gets tired after a while, this album mostly doesn’t. That’s largely thanks to the dark beats of DJ Unknown, which tend to support the grim but hopeful verses from Akim and Boozy. Incidentally, the latter doesn’t come off as particularly boozed – in fact, he often sounds lucid. At 14 tracks, it’s a lot to digest, especially since State Of Emergency lacks variety and there’s a slight overabundance of reggae-lite hooks, but the quality is consistent.
