When you think of Winnipeg you can't help but picture snow, cold and mosquitoes. But the city's got a lot more to offer, especially when it comes to folk music. Like the Perpetrators and Nathan, Twilight Hotel have the potential to dominate the international folk scene. Their new record is loaded with catchy folk, country tunes, proficient accordion playing and great boy-girl harmonies courtesy of Brandy Zdan and Dave Quanbury, a couple off the stage. As interesting as this is, the band curiously throws in a few songs that have nothing to do with country or folk, like the Weakerthans-ish Ponoka or the soft-rock Scrapbook. If Twilight Hotel can stick to what they do best – rollicking country numbers – there's no reason why they can't take over the roots scene. Twilight Hotel play O'Grady's on Monday (March 19).
