Credit album executive producer Sandra Bullock (!) for taking some risks with her Miss Congeniality soundtrack. Though it's somewhat uneven, the disc is ambitious enough to include crucial tracks by Southern Culture on the Skids, Los Lobos, P.Y.T. and Groove Armada -- excellent bands but not the kind to ensure a commercial slam-dunk.
A remix of Tom Jones's classic She's A Lady serves no purpose, and the original ABBA version of Dancing Queen would have been preferred over the A Teens cover. Still, any compilation bold enough to include a song by the irony-challenged William Shatner is worth a look.
