Version Xcursion

Rating: NNN

Local DJ/production team Version Xcursion (aka Sassa’le and Aram Scaram) specialize in reworked interpretations of classic dub reggae fused with related modern trends. Since they work in their own little niche, they enrich their DJ sets with their own productions, which they’ve been releasing quietly over the years.

This retrospective gathers the highlights of the past four years into one mix, and gives a pretty clear idea of where they’re coming from. They’re basically taking the same ingredients that dubstep is based on, but coming up with a completely different result. It’s a fun album to chill out to, but by the end of it you can’t help but wonder why they didn’t try to absorb some of those buzzed-about dubstep flavours into the mix.

Version Xcursion celebrate the CD release of Past And Present Saturday (February 7) at Andy Poolhall.
