Vetiver’s Andy Cabic must be getting tired of Devendra Banhart, too. The pair met in university and initially walked together down the weirdo folk road with Joanna Newsom. Cabic was always closest to radio-friendliness, and Tight Knit is just another step in that direction.

It’s a misstep, though. Vetiver’s 2006 To Find Me Gone found that nice place for campfire listening, but tracks like Everyday and More Of This sound more like background tunes released for the purpose of selling a digital camera or a cellphone with really good reception. All of a sudden that serene campfire is really close to the highway, someone’s taking a phone call, flashes are firing and an otherwise relaxing trip is spoiled.
