Belgian electro-pop band Vive La Fête are at their most rock 'n' roll on their fifth album, and it suits them. Their live show puts the guitars and punk attitude at the forefront, unlike previous recordings that put the new-wave and synth-pop aspects front and centre.
The production values are higher, and everything sounds bigger and glossier. They still sound raw and quirky, but their cool detachment has been pushed aside by an aggressive confidence.
On many moments, they come a hair away from sounding like a parody of new wave, but they manage to be just modern enough to avoid the retro trap.
