It's amateur hour for My Ride's Here, as Warren Zevon decides to record his collaborations with celebrated author pals Carl Hiaasen, Hunter S. Thompson, Mitch Alborn and Paul Muldoon. Like actors who dream of rock stardom, perhaps novelists fantasize about writing pop radio hits. But given the chance, they all seem befuddled by the format and resort to hackneyed phrases and clichés. Particularly misguided is Hit Somebody!, a ham-fisted attempt to create a Casey At The Bat for hockey, backed by Paul Schaeffer with David Letterman shouting the tag line. It's actually even cornier than it sounds.
