Wax Mannequin

Wax Mannequin The Price (Independent) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

Wax “the president of indie rock” Mannequin is a one-man band with presence both live and on wax, whose bombastic and irreverent musical antics and influences are varied. Nods to Ween, Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, Colm Wilkinson, Canadiana, Jim Henson and other iconoclasts show up in many aspects of this well-crafted album. The result is a fairly memorable and original sound that possesses a bizarre classiness. He’s been at it for a minute, and has toured Canada. The album’s highlight could be Fuck Up The Night, an expansive tale of birds eating bees, with some of the most beautifully sung meows imaginable.

Wax Mannequin celebrates his CD release at the Rivoli tonight (Thursday, February 19).
