WEBB BROTHERS

Rating: NNNN

WEBB BROTHERS Maroon (Warner, import) Rating: NNNN

Having hitmaker Jimmy Webb for a dad is a lot to live up to for junior tunesmiths Justin and Christiaan Webb, but the Webb Brothers acquit themselves in stylish fashion on the intermittently brilliant Maroon. If at times the basement-built grandeur of the arrangements promises more than their sketchy lyrics can deliver, the Webbs are still at least a Sagittarius record ahead of the rest of the orch-pop revivalists. Maroon has already appeared on a number of best-of-2000 lists in the UK, and Warner Canada has scheduled a domestic release for May 15. TIM PERLICH
