Westside Connection

Westside Connection Terrorist Threats (Capitol/EMI) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

Don’t expect any insightful geopolitical commentary from Ice Cube, WC and Mack 10 on the provocatively titled Terrorist Threats. The Westside Connection are too busy trying to keep it gangsta. Apart from a few metaphorical references to “blowin’ up like al Qaeda,” the thuggish threesome vent their disgust at how so many hardcore hiphop playas have gone soft with smoothed-out R&B shit post-9/11, and that’s as heavy as it gets. But trying to come off tougher than the rest, the Westside Connection raise the issue of credibility. There’s no doubt Ice Cube can act and has had loads of experience playing the gang-banger role. The problem is he’s been in lots of feel-good comedies, too.
