WOMEN AH RUN TINGS Dare To Be Different (WART) Rating: NNN
In reggae, a genre in which women don't generally run tings as often as men run tings, it's hope-inspiring to hear this six-piece band (plus Lady Luscious on main vocals) running tings so deliciously. Women Ah Run Tings's new "mini-album" is an infectious journey through authentic, organic dub, dancehall and R&B with an empowered rap or two baked into the bounce. The feel is decidedly old-school - this isn't Elephant Man screaming down your throat all day long. It's more a mid-80s dub disco renaissance jam thing you can just groove to. All de soundgals dem represent!
Women Ah Run Tings play a CD release party upstairs at the El Mocambo Friday (March 19).
