Album reviews Music

Wu-Tang Clan

Rating: NNN

Although a truncated version of a DVD, this Wu live album is notable cuz the 2004 San Bernadino appearance documented here features all 9 MCs onstage together at once, including Ol’ Dirty Bastard – a feat comparable to solving the Middle East conflict. It offers 27 songs crisscrossing their career as a group and their solo albums. Although Inspectah Deck sounds like he has a throat problem and U-God makes little impression, ODB shines, sounding surprisingly vintage and ably making it through most of his verses, albeit with lots of shouted backups from the rest of the Wu. Even Cappadonna provides a sweet a cappella of his Run verse to introduce Ghostface’s version, giving hope to all that he will one day not need to drive a cab. Won’t disappoint fans.
