YES NEW YORK

YES NEW YORK (Wolfgang Morden) Rating: NNN Rating: NNN

The first worthwhile attempt to document the exciting New York club scene, Yes New York (a nod to Brian Eno’s conceptually similar No New York survey from 78) offers a balanced overview of what’s been happening, with contributions from current celebs such as the Strokes (a snappy live version of New York City Cops), the Rapture, Interpol, Radio 4 and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (disguised as Unitard) along with tracks from fast-rising stars like lcd soundsystem,Calla and the Fever. Although the selection, assembled for Vice Magazine’s Wolfgang Morden imprint, is strangely geared more to conventional rock than the angular dance grooves associated with the scene, this is still the best guide to the emerging NYC sound so far.
