Vancouver’s Young and Sexy are neither young nor sexy. Discuss. On The Arc, their fourth release in 10 years, the now veteran quintet deliver a complex collection of delicate indie pop selections complete with oddball chord changes, plenty of EBow and the occasional orchestral flourish.
At times, these songs sound like they could have come out of a Flaming Lips/Destroyer collaboration. A good example is Young & Sexy Vs. The Arc, when the band suddenly arrives at an undeniably pop chorus on the otherwise downtrodden track. At their best when co-vocalist Lucy Brain is upfront, Young and Sexy also benefit from cool reverby guitar licks courtesy of André Lagacé.
