A sampling of the forgettable performances from the first season of the CBC’s experiment in multimedia television perfectly captures the bland, self-consciously “alternative” nature of the program that makes it so hard to stomach. Musical guests like the Weakerthans, BrassMunk, Sam Roberts, Cinematic Orchestra and the Organ seem to be selected for their (marginally) hip cachet, but their quietly inoffensive contributions to the misleadingly titled Live Off The Floor disc appear to be chosen strictly for wallpaper appeal.
