Alice Glass to make her Toronto debut as a headliner: Just announced shows

Plus: Broken Social Scene and Portugal. The Man open the season at Budweiser Stage, Warped Tour announces its dates, Post Malone adds a second show

Alice Glass will play her long-awaited first hometown solo show as a headliner on May 11 at Mod Club as part of Canadian Music Week. She opened for Marilyn Manson a few weeks ago at his rescheduled show at Rebel, but this will be her debut as the main attraction.

The singer announced that she was leaving Crystal Castles in 2014, and released her impressive first solo EP in August of last year. She later wrote a blog post alleging years of sexual assault, manipulation and physical and emotional abuse by ex-bandmate Ethan Kath dating back to when she was 15.

Kath responded with a defamation suit, which was thrown out by Los Angeles Superior Court last week.

Toronto Police have since confirmed there is an open investigation on Kath (real name Claudio Palmieri), and Daily Beast recently published an investigation that included interviews with four more of his alleged assault and abuse victims, all then aged between 14 and 19.

It’s an unfortunate backdrop to Alice Glass’s Snowblood tour, her first as a headliner, but her impressive mix of electronic noise, hooky pop and atmospheric ambiance deserves to be experienced live without being overshadowed. For Glass’s longtime hometown fans, the Mod Club show will be a chance to put the past in the past and embark with her on the next chapter.

May 11 at Mod Club (722 College). $30.,
