Club spotlight

Rating: NNNNN

mint et menthe (647 king west, 416-361-9111)

VIBE Another upscale lounge/small club painted all white, with lots of seating targeting hip but not too hip professionals. Think martinis, cocktails and imported beer. Crowd is mid-20s and fairly well dressed. Expect to hear house, R&B, hiphop and even a bit of nu-jazz, with DJs tending to stick to the deeper end of the spectrum. People do dance, but that’s not the focus.

VALUE Surprisingly affordable. No cover, reasonable drink prices, no mandatory coat check, no washroom attendant to tip. You won’t, however, have much luck getting a bottle of Canadian at the bar, so prepare for a small selection of imported brews.

WASHROOMS Paper towels and water all over the floor — not what you expect in a place like this. Maybe a washroom attendant is required. Institutional look, not very glamorous.

SECURITY Relaxed. The line moves quickly because there’s no cover. Expect to be asked for ID, but at least you won’t be molested by an invasive search.
