Li’ly (656 college, 416-532-0419)

VIBE Nothing too unique vibe-wise, Li’ly is basically just another College Street bar, somewhat swank but not too glitzy. Not over-designed, but still too new for that lived-in feel. Expect to hear deep house most nights — more lounging than dancing. Li’ly is also a tapas bar earlier on in the evening, so it might make a good date spot for food and drinks.

FEATURES What sets Li’ly apart from the dozens of similar spots along this strip is its little basement dance-floor lounge. It looks more space-age than the upstairs and has a lot of potential as an intimate partying spot once the weather warms up and Toronto emerges from hibernation.

BATHROOMS Small and clean. Nothing to complain about.

VALUE No cover or coat check to worry about, but drinks aren’t particularly cheap. A bottle of Red Stripe will run you about six bucks plus tip. The place looks nice enough, though, so unless you and your date are heavy drinkers, it’s not a bad place to go to impress a first date without maxing out your credit card.
