REVIVAL (783 college, 416-535-7888)
CONCEPT A big old hall converted into a swank restaurant, live venue and dance club. After initially concentrating on jazz and blues, the club has branched out into house, mod and soul. Used to be notorious for bad sound, but the system’s been upgraded. Revival is now one of the best-looking live venues, and functions reasonably well as a dance club.
VIBE Varies. Expect a mix of the typical College Street crowd and the event’s core audience. The scene at the Monday-night R&B open mike is different from Saturday night’s Mod Club. More chill than a regular dance club.
VALUE Not the cheapest place, but not over-the-top expensive either. Cover is generally reasonable, drinks a bit pricey.
BATHROOMS Clean but utilitarian. A bit small considering the size of the venue, but I’ve yet to witness long lineups.
