HABITAT 735 Queen West 416-860-1551
VIBE Yet another mixed-use restaurant/bar, this one also caters to the upscale crowd, like most other new venues. Sometimes you have to wonder if there are really enough upper-middle-class clubbers to support all these places, but Habitat seems to be consistently packed. The music is mainly house, with a smattering of R&B on Friday nights. People have been seen dancing, though there's no real dance floor.
FEATURES The patio is what people notice first and what attracts a lot of the crowd. Decor is minimal and warm, with lots of dark wood and some plants. The sound system isn't particularly powerful but doesn't need to be. Habitat is a place to talk and hang out.
VALUE The food's expensive, and so's the alcohol. There's a cover some nights, which seems weird for a lounge, but then again, they do have local house legend Nick Holder playing every Saturday. This is where you go to show off the size of your wallet.
BATHROOMS As you'd expect, the bathrooms are clean and spacious. Unlike other similar bars, there's no washroom attendant.
