817 Queen West, 416-703-5069
VIBE A fixture on Queen West for 10 years, Gypsy Co-op's recently changed owners. The overall earthy bohemian feel should stay the same, but you can look forward to renovations and sound system improvements over the next few months. It's a restaurant during the day, a mini-club at night, with music ranging from deep house to underground hiphop and funk. There's a separate club - the Hooch - upstairs; some special events use both floors.
VALUE No cover generally, and when there is one it's small. Drink prices are neither outrageous nor cheap. Food's a bit pricey.
BATHROOMS Could use a bit of work after a decade, but the new management promises they're high on the to-do list.
LINEUP Not usually an issue here, but when there's a special event you may find yourself waiting for a few minutes while IDs get checked (which they're pretty tight about).
