Inside a Boat
Experimental turntablists iNSiDEaMiND celebrate the release of their new 12-inch single (yes, Virginia, there is still a market for vinyl) at the Boat. Featuring ethereal vocals by Laura Barrett and remixes by Circle Research and LAL’s Murr, it’s a dense, heavily textured slab of moodiness that’s well worth checking out.

Byrd on a wire
If you like your drum ’n’ bass with more soul and less aggro, you’ll want to check out Danny Byrd’s smooth liquid funk at the Blue Moon, headlining the Soul In Motion party. If you’re worried that the bar’s system won’t be able to handle the bass lines, the promoters are bringing in extra sound to properly beef it up.
The Juan MacLean is one of the most solid acts on the DFA roster, and John MacLean’s new material brings new layers of soul and funk into his electro-influenced left-field dance music. Unfortunately, his gig at Wrongbar is not a full-band show, but his DJ sets are still worth the trek to Parkdale.
Sat, May 3
The Solid Garage crew celebrate an impressive 10 years throwing soulful house events with a party at Revival. Headlining the evening is vocalist Byron Stingily, who some will remember from classic house icons Ten City. Get ready for lots of singalongs and ass shaking.
Sun, May 4
Tattoo Rock Parlour goes a little less rock and a lot more electro when Junkie XL and Tommie Sunshine touch down for a bangin’ night of buzzsaw synths and recontextualized indie rock vocals. This would be a good week to avoid working mornings, as there’s plenty more weeknight trouble to get into over the next few days.
Mon, May 5
Ellen Allien runs one of the hottest labels in Berlin (BPitch Control), so expect her gig at the Social with label mate Sascha Funke to reach capacity quite early. Advance tickets are recommended for this techno throwdown.
Wed, May 7
The Berlin-based Get Physical label continues its North American tour with an appearance at the Social by M.A.N.D.Y., Heidi and Audiofly. Booka Shade may be the most famous artists on the roster, but all of these guys are well-equipped to bring the heat, as long as you like that house/techno/electro fusion thing.
