EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME, BONJAY at Hart House, Thu, Jul 30. Rating: NNNN
Most of the crowd out at the second annual Craft Beer Festival & Summer BBQ were clearly there mainly to sample the large assortment of micro-brews, so you have to give the musical acts credit for successfully managing to command the attention of the audience.
Everything All The Time are a synth-fueled six-piece who allude to dance music here and there, but are grounded mainly in catchy uptempo indie rock. They're about to release a new EP this month, and if the new songs previewed at the show are any indication, we're in for a treat.
By the time Bonjay hit the stage, beer-exhaustion had sent a good chunk of the crowd home, but Stuart and her DJ/producer Pho still managed get a dance floor going immediately. Unlike EATT, Bonjay are definitely routed in club music, specifically electro, dancehall reggae and R&B, which allows Stuart to flex her vocal muscles more. Look out for their debut release in the fall.
