Covering Toronto’s top 50

Greys are a self-described “loud rock band from Toronto.” So it’s fitting that they kick off our 50 Best Toronto Albums video series with a cover of Constantines’ roaring National Hum, from 2003’s Shine A Light, which came in at number 40 on NOW’s list. Greys’ third EP, Drift, is due February 12 via Kind of Like Records, with a tour to follow in the spring.

Quest for Fire extinguished

Fans of local stoner rockers Quest for Fire were disappointed to find out last week that the band is calling it quits after six years. Guess that means the new album they were promising for 2013 isn’t happening after all.

You will have one more chance to see them play live, though, at a farewell gig at the Horseshoe February 15.

Elliott Brood’s NYE baby

Toronto alt-country band Elliott Brood cancelled their NYE show at Lee’s Palace, but they had a pretty good excuse: frontman Casey Laforet was supporting his wife, Jane Maggs, as she gave birth to the official first Toronto baby of 2013.

The band plays two makeup shows at the Dakota Tavern on January 30 and 31.
