THE COWBOY CHOIR at the Comfort Zone, Thursday, June 16. NXNE. Rating: NNN
On paper, it should never work. Nine female singers standing in a row, singing covers of classic country tunes, accompanied by a single guitar. But on stage at the Comfort Zone, it was most of the time quite lovely.
Changing positions between songs to accommodate different vocal groupings made things sag a bit.
But you can see the seeds of a great idea here. More solo turns would help bring out some of the individual personalities, a little more choreography would do wonders and the harmonies could be even richer than they are.
But this was a sweet set, for sure.
