In an extraordinarily short career, Deadmau5 (aka Joel Zimmerman) has already had a huge impact on the global dance music scene, despite being largely unknown in his hometown until relatively recently. Bypassing the label system, his record-setting sales on the club-oriented MP3 superstore Beatport prove that you don’t need vinyl any more to break out, just some good tunes and an ear for what’s hot on the dance floor.
